Site editor is our new way of creating online content using our new web theme. It was created to make it easy to edit content allowing web editors to focus more on content design rather than the technicalities of web design. You can log into site editor using your Kent account which means you can edit the content even if you are working from home or using the university's VPN. It's been built in-house, the benefit being that we can shape it to our needs. For the best experience we recommend that you use a modern web browser such as Google Chrome. So when you log in you'll see a list of sites that you have permission to edit. On selecting a site you'll enter a site overview screen. From this screen you will be able to set up staff profiles. You'll also be able to manage and edit the menu. From the site menu you'll be able to view the media manager, which lists all the images and documents uploaded to the site and you'll be able to sit different user permissions if you are the owner of the website. So you may be an owner, editor or contributor. As an owner you would administer the site and you can add remove users and manage their permissions as well as create edit and publish pages. An editor can create edit and publish pages and a contributor can create an editor page but cannot delete move or publish. The owner of the site leads the content for the website and as lead they will help with a consistent approach and be a point of contact. They are able to select editors with the suitable editorial web skills to facilitate creating editing and publishing and can assign wider contributors if necessary. The owner or content lead plays the role of a gatekeeper to ensure that the content aligns with the strategic purpose of the website. Now site editor is still a new piece of software and further features are being developed such as that this analytics graph which at the moment is just a placeholder. Our first step is to get the basics going so that you can start publishing. We have a backlog of feature improvements so you will see it improve and evolve over time.
