James Whitehead Law LLB student >> I think the biggest reason that I chose Kent was because it's a critical law school. So as opposed to being told this is the law, just learn it, we are taught to look at it from a political, socio-legal, and at times even other schools of thought, perspective because we know that the law's not just what's written in statute books or what's in the judgments. >> We realise that there's impacts beyond just law that should be looked at. >> I chose law because I'd studied law as part of my A level politics where we looked at the judiciary, we looked at some brief Supreme Court cases, and then we looked at American politics. >> We looked at more theoretical arguments of law and I absolutely love that kind of discussion. >> I like talking about why a judge decided a certain thing, why the legislation was brought in for a particular reason and I just wanted to really study there for a whole three years and I'm really delighted that I get to do that. >> The facilities at Kent Law School are absolutely fantastic. >> One of the biggest examples is the Wigoder building, which is the most recent development on campus for the law school which houses the Law Clinic, it has a brand new state-of-the-art mooting chamber and some study spaces. >> The library here is also fantastic. You get 24-hour access and that can be really helpful especially during crunch time for deadlines. >> So I am the president of the Kent Student Law Society and I'm also on the committee for the European Law Students Association (ELSA). >> Kent Student Law Society and ELSA are both absolutely fantastic for people wanting to get the contacts and actually inside knowledge on what it's like to have a career in law. >> We have regular socials, we have regular events with alumni and law firms, education providers. >> So, in Kent Law School for employability services we have a dedicated employability officer who regularly sends around newsletters and information about upcoming internships, deadlines and any other opportunities that people think might be helpful. >> There's also a dedicated careers service on campus which does CV workshops, which is an absolutely fantastic service. >> The biggest piece of advice I would give to a student wanting to come study law at Kent would be get involved in societies. >> They are an absolutely amazing way of making friends and also getting some valuable contacts that could help you out in the future.
