Site Editor is the university's website content editor. It was created to make it easy to edit content allowing web editors to focus more on content than the technicalities of web design. You can log into Site Editor using your account, which means you can edit the content even if you're working from home or using the university's VPN. (Log in at webtools.kent.ac.uk/site-editor) It's been built in house, the benefit being that we can shape it to our needs. For the best experience, we recommend that you use a modern web browser such as Google Chrome. When you log in, you'll see a list of sites you have permission to edit. On selecting a site, you'll enter a site overview screen. From this screen, you will be able to set up staff profiles, manage and edit the website menu, view the media manager which lists all the images and documents uploaded to the site. You'll be able to set different user permissions if you are a Central Editor. The suggested workflow is for assigned Central Editors to work with Lead Editors from around the university. Central Editor is a member of a central team which works in partnership with an assigned department or school to provide strategic guidance on content and editorial. The Lead Editor is a member of a department, traditionally a marketing or admin person, who oversees the website and has had the necessary training to create content in Site Editor. They take on the responsibility as the content lead and designated representative for their department. A Local Editor doesn't often edit web content, and may not have experience in writing for the web, but is invited to contribute to a draft. The Lead Editor will proof the content and make sure it adheres to house style and website policy. A Profile Editor is able to add an edit a profile content is proofed and edited to house style by the Lead Editor before publishing. We have a backlog of feature improvements so you will see it improve and evolve over time. Things such as an enhanced media manager for managing, cropping and tagging imagery and user interface improvements. You can learn more about the editing interface on our Site Editor Basics video.
